The press conference for the new hotel at Seven Feathers was this morning. There will now be 298 rooms, 12 suites, 2 convention rooms and a buffet style restaurant serving Mexican, Oriental, Italian, Mediterranean, and American. A Spa will also be opening sometime in July.
City Council has employed a late notice for water service of $10.00. If you notice street lights out please notify them. They have applied for a grant to pave 5th street.
The Lions Club have a BBQ stand at the Chili Cook Off at Seven Feathers this weekend. They will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs from 11am until the crowds thin out. The proceeds will go to benefit the sight and hearing fund.
Pioneer Days is still looking for more talent for the Talent Show. It is free to enter this year and you can pick up applications from Tamara at Hoff's. Donations are also being accepted to help pay for entertainment and use. They are holding a raffle for a 42" flat screen TV. Tickets go on sale Wednesday they are $5 each or 5 for 20. There is also preferred seating being offered this year. We are also needing pies to sell.
The North Welcome to Canyonville sign still needs the ditch filled in but is otherwise finished.
Kathy Brown is going to look into availability of the parent groups button machine. It will be about $250.00 to buy one. After all materials are purchased it will cost approx. 40 cents each. Jake Motioned to do two buttons, Tamara 2nd. One for before your arrested and one for after.
The County will be out to do the 500' sidewalk addition. They are trying to build the rest of the sidewalk into the budget.
A businessmens/womens mixer tonight at the Elks in myrtle creek at 6pm.
The Chamber will sponsor a $35.00 plaque for the Mens Single Horseshoe Competition at Pioneer days. Jake Motioned Tamara 2nd.

July 1st Lilley's Pad will be changing hands. Tina Jensen and Katey Seamons will be the new owners.
Pam also is wanting to open an Art Gallery in the empty area next to Bead Mecca. The South Umpqua Valley Art Gallery or SUVA would house local artists work for purchase. Hopefully be the end of July it will open. She still needs tape, texture and paint.
Grades K,1,2, 3/4 combo, 5 and 6 will be in Canyonville next year. The DLC was moved to Myrtle Creek. On the Schoolboard Jeannie Weekly and the new Superintendent will start in July.

A new store Just Essentials will be opening next to Lilleys Pad. They will be selling toilet paper, paper towels and other home essentials.

Boomer sent Rod Miller down to talk to Judy. They will make the Jail 8X8 and in 4 sections. It will be done by Pioneer Days. Chuck Mauldin will be the Sheriff. We will get a free spot at Pioneer Days for Jail if we give proceeds to the Stage Coverings. He has offered to print flyer's and posters for Pioneer days.
Pam will find out cost to make buttons/badges. She is thinking approx. 100-200 dollars.
We should ask the Parent Group to see if they have machine.
Pam L met with the County Commissioner today. they talked for 1 1/2 hrs about sidewalks in Canyonville. Pressing them to put sidewalks all the way to the cemetery. They may do a temporary black top path until they fix road 10yrs from now.

There is a fundraiser, raffling off a TV $5/ticket or 5 for 20.

The Mainstreet meeting with the Commissioners has been rescheduled for June 11 at 10am room 217 at the Douglas County Courthouse. They are asking for show of support if you can make it. Please call Pam or Joanne with questions.

The City Wide Yard Sale has been set for July 11th. Rick from the city has volunteered to help cook. Breakfast will be served from 8-11 and lunch from 11-2at Pioneer Park. Maps will be available to show where the yard sales are. To be included on the map there is a 5$ fee or you can donate items that will benefit the Chamber. Please drop all items off at Bead Mecca and have them organized and labeled. There will be press releases sent to the News Review and The Umpqua Free Press.
Myrtle Creek is hosting a Show and Shine on June 27 at Millsite Park. Parking will start at 9am for cars the show will be from 12-3 with entertainment and food booths available. This is usually included with the Summer Festival but they have seperated it this year.
There is a Businessmen/women's mixer being held at the Elks Lodge in Myrtle Creek on June 18th.
Susan was discussing a larger more efficient South County Resource Center. It is currently in Tri-city but they are running out of room to house all the different programs that are available. There are already plans from several years ago that would include several different City, County and State programs. She is going to try and meet with the City Council in the next few months to discuss this project and the funding that is available at this time.
Myrtle Creek Elks are asking for individual donations for there golf tournament held at the Myrtle Creek Golf Course.

There will be a DVD presentation of the Road Trip to Carnegie Hall. The trip the Riddle High School Band recently went on. The viewing will be June 3, 2009 @ 7:30pm. Free admission.
Application have been sent out for Pioneer Days booths. The Chamber would like to participate and Judy will start filling out the forms.
In June Douglas County Public Works will be installing drainage and sidewalks from the Horseless Carriage building to Canyon Market. About a 500 ft path.
Pam spoke with Susan Morgan about the sidewalk being paved all the way to the cemetery. There is a presentation to the commissioners on June 4th at 2:30pm. Letters of support are still being accepted along with the petitions that are going around. Anyone can sign.
Jeanie Weakley won the open South Umpqua School Board Position.
The School Board has decided to keep the 6th grade in Canyonville for the 09-10 school year.
The Bingo event held by the Lions at Pioneer Park on Sat went very well. They intend to be having more games in the future.
about 30 people volunteered on Saturday to clean up the city. They weeded, planted flowers and cleaned up from City Hall to Pioneer Park.
Tamara Hoff won the 150.00 Gas gift card raffle held by the Chamber.
The Erwin's have the power pole up for the Welcome to Canyonville sign at the north end of town. We hope to have the electrical up and everything working shortly.
2 scholarships of $500.00 will be awarded by the Chamber to South County Students. The winners will be announced next month.

There will be a South County marketing training, by the Lacoda Group from Chicago, and is tentatively scheduled for the 18-19 of June. It will include town specific marketing for Canyonville, Riddle and Myrtle Creek. Once this is complete the Downtown Marketing Committee will apply for a grant under the UCDC economic development. It will help with marketing analysis for the 3 cities. It's for 17,000 and that will be matched by the UCDC. We would have to to volunteer hours as an in kind donation. It will help with determining needs in community. The next step would be to attract new businesses and activity in downtown areas. Helping with cosmetic improvements working in conjunction with the Historical Society.
As soon as Canyonville can come up with the materials cost for the Park seating cover they will begin construction. Some fund raising ideas were discussed.
Ideas are needed for the booth at the fairgrounds on June 26th for the 150.
The Pioneer days Committee needs donations to help with music. They have sent out forms to previous donors.
Kerry is holding the town swap/donation this sat at the Youth Center from 9-3pm.
There is a Chili dinner benefiting the 150th Birthday set for Oct 3rd.
The land has already been offered for the Circus next year. Canyonville Cigars and Ciggs has offered to let us sell tickets for the circus in front of there establishment.

The Circus went very well. We are receiving a lot of positive feedback with plans to hold it again next year. The chamber made 240.00 off of pres-old tickets, with an additional 98 tickets sold at the gate. Along with a lot of fun, local business also reported having a boost in sales.
The Downtown Assoc. has a meeting tonight at 7pm at Ken's. They will be discussing the sidewalk between here and the Casino. Please let Pam or Colleen know if you have letters of support.
The ballot box will be at City Hall until 8pm on Tues.
The City wide Clean up is this Saturday the 16th from 9-12 and 1-4. Lunch and entertainment will be provided for volunteers at Pioneer Park from 12-1. Meet at City Hall at 9am.

Days Creek High school is hosting there annual Alumni Softball game. Sunday May 17th at 2pm admission is 1.00 with a dinner fundraiser following at 4:30. BBQ Salmon, Chicken and hamburgers will be served this year. Dinner starts at 5.00/adults 4.00/kids age k-12 and 3.00/4 and under. They will be auctioning off 2 sweatshirts and all proceeds go to the girls softball team.
The Pioneer Day Committee has paid the booking fee. They will soon get letters out requesting donations. Doug is measuring for seating. They are discussing different fundraising or raffle ideas.
The month of May and June are busy for the local schools. The softball field is now usable for the 10 and under group. The Fire dept is letting grades 1-4 try the fire hose. Grades 4,5,and 6 will soon have there outdoor trips. The kindergarten will be coming around visiting local businesses and June 2nd is the year end movie. CA Theaters provided a 75% disc. This year to rent the theater if the children would be allowed in advertising. They have laid off one teacher and are blending the 3/4 grades for the 2010 school year.
May 23rd is the Community Giveaway at the Youth Center From 9-3. And will be held the 4th Sat of June and July. Contact Kerry at Ray's with questions.
The YMCA Free Lunch Program is going to be held this year. Starting on June 29-Aug 13 Mon-Thurs from 12-1. All children are welcome. Myrtle Creek and Riddle will also be participating.

Sunday August 9th at 11am there is a Motorcycle Food Drive from Myrtle Creek Elks Lodge to Galesville. The food will go to reservists families who are in need of help. It is joint project between the Grants Pass and Myrtle Creek Elks. There will also be a bike bashing held at 1.00/hit.

Judy updated everyone about the Circus on May 13th. The Clown was here yesterday and went to local businesses and schools. There will be an add in the News Review on May 8th. Seven Feathers will provide a free bus service from City Hall to the circus starting at 4pm and finishing when the circus is over. Seven Feathers purchased and gave out tickets to 152 families and took care of manicuring the field. Cheryl volunteered to call and have utilities located to prevent damage when putting up big top. All the money has been collected from pre-sold tickets totalling over $1100.00. All other monies and tickets need to be returned to Katie Siegel at Canyonville Chiropractic by 12pm on Monday May11th. Our Guest Ringmaster is Doug Sales.
The cover for the bleachers at Pioneer Park has been designed and may start construction soon.
There will be a Chili dinner project for the Oregon 150 on Oct 3rd.
Pam Landell resigned as Secretary of the Chamber effective today 05-07-09. She thanked everyone and we appreciated her work with the chamber. Jenny Gilbert is to replace Pam as secretary. Javelin Motioned to have Jenny replace Pam on the Board of the Chamber and seconded by Brian Shankle.
Pam also informed us of needing to renew the PO Box and the Myrtle Creek Chamber membership.
There will be a meeting tonight at 7pmat Ken's for the Main Street Program and the Bicycle/Pedestrian path. The Group would appreciate any letters of support from businesses and private citizens. The Chamber has already submitted their Letter. Please drop off with Pam or Colleen Deaton.
Lilley's Pad Children's Boutique is now open downtown Tues-Sat 10-4pm. They offer educational toys and clothing.
The Feedlot has been leased. Marla Bates is opening a Restaurant/Gift Shop for Break, Lunch and dinner and should be open in July.
Shanna reminded us about the Dinner and a Movie for adults thrown by the Parent Group. Tickets are still available and it is this Friday 05-08-09 at 8pm. for tickets or more info call 839-6966.
The kids have a "drive in" movie at the YMCA. Please call the Y with questions.
The AOA trips for this summer have been scheduled. Table Rick hike is May 15.
There will be a car wash during the city wide clean up on the 16th. Money is to help the South County YMCA.

Doug said the Lions Club will have Bingo at Pioneer Park on May 16th from 1-3.

Travis Fuller and Cody O'Sullivan from the Days Creek School talked about the fundraiser for the entry of the school. They are selling engraved bricks that are $50.00 each and will have up to 3 lines of script, available in a variety of fonts. So far they have sold 100 bricks, but would like to sell 1000. The kids are doing all the work. If you would like more info contact Mark Hopfer 825-3296.
Days Creek will have 30 graduating Seniors this year.
Javelin talked about the Umpqua Training and Employment summer work program that gives hands on training and mentorship to youth with a cost benefit to the employer. They have openings and funding. If you would like to apply the deadline is April 17th, contact Gaylene Nixon - 672-7761 x 242 or email her at gaylene@utelstop.org
The YMCA had a succesful Healthy Kid's day. They were impressed with the turn-out of complete family units. The Get Fit Challenge ends this Friday. There is an awards ceremony this Friday evening at the Y.
The Canyonville Schools Parent Group is selling tickets to the dinner and a movie event that is on Friday May 8th. Tickets are $20 and include dinner, dessert and the movie. There will also be a raffle for a 26" flat screen TV. for tickets or more info call 839-6966
Jim reported that there is $500 dollars in the Chamber scholarship fund and $5000 in the Harry Burdge scholarship fund.
The circus pre-sold $1300 in circus tickets and that means that all sales from here on out are profits for the chamber. There were 52 tickets that we donated to the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt.Circus posters and tickets should arrive soon.
Chuck announced that the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt. that will be this Saturday at 1:00 at pioneer park. There will be different age group categories to make it fair for the little ones. He also wanted to congratulate Tamara Hoff for being the Woman of the Year at Saturdays Citizen of the Year Banquet.
Pam announced the Main Street meeting that will be Thursday April 16th at 7:00 at Ken's Sidewalk Cafe. She asked for a letter of support from the chamber to have when approaching the County Commissioners. Javelin spoke with Susan Morgan who supports the Bicycle/Pedestrian path plans. The Main Street Association will ask for the support of the city at the council meeting on the 20th.
The Oregon Main Street Program will be holding a 2 day workshop April 20-21 on the main street program that is open to everyone and is free of charge. It will be held at Jasmine's on South East Main Street in Downtown. If you are interested contact Pam at 839-6688. You are welcome to attend all or part of the workshop, so come show your support and learn about how the Main Street program can help Canyonville.
The next Chamber meeting will have a peanut party. What is it? come find out at the Canyon Cafe' at noon on Thursday April 16th.
