Chuck M also reported the Canyonville Fire Dept also donated to the food baskets 500.00.

Old business:

  • It was discussed when we could get the lights up in Pioneer Park. Jake, Javelin and Jim will try to get together next week to get them up.

New business:

  • Judy Coleman reported that Danielle Raines was interested in doing a “games” night fundraiser out at 7-Feathers. She is looking for volunteers to help. It will be a 3-chamber co-op and money will be split between them. Pam Y., Jake Y, Joanne, and Judy C will attend the first meeting to get the information. Meeting will be held December 13th from 3-5 PM.
  • Joanne also reported she read in the News Review about Upward Bound wanting to do some volunteer work. It was suggested that we may be able to use some of these students.

    Upcoming events:

    • Tree lighting and downtown after hours tonight! Please get your maps from Pam L. at bead Mecca.
    • Festival of Trees Sunday December 6th for families. Cost is just 2.50 per family.
    • 16th annual Timber Truckers Parade December 12th.
    • Lions Christmas baskets December 18th.

    Guest Speakers:

    • Pam Frank from Mercy Foundation spoke about the “Healthy Kids Outreach Program”. Healthy Kids Program helps families who need help with healthcare in addition to nurses who go into the schools to educate on heath care. If you would like more information on this program please contact Pam at pamelafrank@chiwest.com

Old business:

· Joanne and Pam L. wanted to remind everyone they will be coming around with the business survey. Please take the time to fill out and return. Please contact Pam L at pam@canvonvillechamber.org if you need one or have not received one. In addition there will be a customer survey questionnaire being handed out. If you need one or have question please contact Pam as well.

New business:

· It was voted on and passed the Canyonville Chamber donate to the Canyonville Lions club $500 for the Christmas baskets. Chuck M. also reported they received $500 from the Canyonville Masons.

· The Canyonville Christmas lights are up! Thank you all who made this possible!

If you would like to contribute to the light fund please contact Judy Coleman at Rays Sentry Market in Canyonville.

· Jake Young reported that Spring Hills (The company that published our Canyonville, Riddle and Myrtle Creek maps) had contacted him. They wanted to know if we were interested in a free hyper-link to our web-site. A motion was made by Pam Y. and seconded by Javelin O. that we accept the link. It was voted on and accepted by all.

· Nominations were made for next year’s Chamber President, Secretary, Vice President, and Treasurer. Below are the nominations:

President: Jake Young –Nominated by Pam Y and 2nd by Chuck M.

Vice President: Tamara Hoff-Nominated by Chuck M and 2nd by Jake y.

Treasurer: Jim Siegel-Nominated by Stephanie B. and 2nd by Jim Siegel

Voting will be held the next meeting in Dec on the 3rd.

· Ted R. spoke about the 16th annual timber truckers light parade. It will be held on Dec 12, 2009. The theme is “The Timber Industry” Parade leaves D.R. Johnson mill and will go through Riddle, out Old Pacific Hwy, through Tri-city and Myrtle Creek. If you would like more information or would like an application please call 541-874-2231.

· Ted also reported The Myrtle Creek City Council also approved the new “Gateway” sign. Victory Builders will be completing the work.

EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS-

· Ugly sweater contest and downtown Christmas Celebration on December 4th. Please pick up your score card from Bead Mecca. You could be eligible for a grand prize of $50.00 in addition to some great goodies some of the business may be handing out! If you need more info or would like to add your business to the list please contact Pam at pam@beadmecca.com

· Tree lighting ceremony will be held in front of Ken’s Sidewalk Café on December 4th at 5:30 PM. Some business will be open late. There will be cookies, and hot chocolate.

· Riddle Chamber is hosting a “Civil War Party” at the Myrtle Creek Elks lodge. On December 3rd. Please contact Riddle chamber of commerce for tickets.

· Light Parade December 12th

· December 18th the Lions club will be putting the food baskets together. Please come out and help. If you know of a name or can help please contact Nancy Bigelow @ 541-839-6614.

Introductions

Old business:

· Judy Coleman reported 52 food baskets were given out to families in need through out South County. Thank you Cow Creek Tribe of Indians for the donation.

· SUVA gallery in Canyonville is seeking quality art, and handcrafted gifts. It is located in a historic building in downtown Canyonville. If you would like more information please contact pam@suvagallery.com .

· Get ready… Tiger Cards will be out shortly. Have your “goodies” ready. Our kids have done a great job! No missed days!!

New Business

· We are handing out booklets to find out what area(s) most of our business or customers are coming from. If you did not receive one please call the Canyonville chamber to request one.

· The Welcome to Canyonville Fountain needs to be cleaned on or about every three months. Steve Kelly with SUSD said he will go to the training given by Victory Builders and volunteer to clean the fountain time permitting.

· Pam L. reported “Promise Natural Foods” was selected as business of the month. Congratulations! Pam also reported that she will be working with Bob Chaney on the extended highway 99 signs. They signs will have to be approved by the city council and county. More to follow.

· The Christmas celebration will be held on December 4th 2009. There will be singing, Christmas tree lighting (5:30 Pm) and an “Ugly Christmas Sweater” contest and party on the same night. Grand prize will be $50.00!. Please register at Bead Mecca for a map and scorecard. Contact Pam@canyonvillechamber.org.

· A Business Owners survey was handed out. If you received one please take the time to complete and return to Bead Mecca. If you have not received one contact Pam @ pam@canyonvillechamber.org for one. Please take the time with the surveyors if they come to your business. We are trying to improve “your” town.

Speakers:

· Danielle Raines with 7-Feathers asked if there were any business that would like to participate with them during conventions. Danielle was asking if there were some who would be willing to offer discounts, classes, coupons etc… while conventions were being held. Please contact Danielle at draines@sevenfeathers.com Danielle also reported on a SOVA customer service class to be held. The class would be approximately 3 hours long and held on February 28th and March 1st. If you or one of your employees would like to come please contact Danielle at the email address listed above.

· Tim Freeman spoke on the SUSD proposal and expressed the fact that he thought it was done well and would benefit all the kids.

· SOVA Customer service symposium Feb 28th and March 1st 2010.

· Downtown Christmas Celebration December 4th 5-7PM downtown Canyonville

· SUSD regular board meeting is Monday 16th of November and the special board meeting is Wednesday November 18th. Come out and support your schools.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • It was reported the Pumpkin Festival went well. The numbers were not in and will be reported next week.
  • We are still looking for information to go into the news letter such as events, business happenings, announcements, products, etc. Please submit to: newsletter@canyonvillechamber.org.
  • Jim Siegel reported approximately 850.00 was made on the Rodeo.
  • Downtown Trick or Treating was another great success this year. Thanks to all who came out to participate.
  • It does not look like we will be buying the new chamber decals for the year 2011 (we have 2010) due to rising costs. T. Hoff said will look into making them.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • The downtown assoc will be coming around with a business survey. Please take the time with them. Your input will be very helpful.
  • Doug Sales is working on a Christmas celebration happening after the Christmas tree lighting. He would like for retail business to extend their hours for that evening. If you would like more information please call Doug at Kens Sidewalk Café.
  • SUVA will be doing an Art Gallery. They are looking for contemporary or recycled arts. Please contact pam@suvagallery.com

The ring toss booth raised about $800.00.

Tamara will let people know about meetings for the Pumpkin & music festival to be held on Oct 17Th.

Steve from the SUSD wanted to thank all the sponsors again. We are on the 8Th day of school and so far everything is going smoothly. Enrollment is up from the end of the year last year. The board meeting last night was canceled and has been rescheduled for next Wednesday at 6:30. They will be interviewing candidates for the open Canyonville Board position.

The Rodeo starts at 3:30 on the 19Th we need volunteers to run the food booth. Please contact Judy for more info.

Next Thursday at 6:30 the 17Th is a Business Mixer at Forest Glenn. There will be several presenters and drinks and snacks will be served.

Rick came down and cleaned the filters for the North welcome sign. If we can get enough volunteers, Phil will come down and teach us how to do it ourselves. It should be cleaned monthly.
The water timer issues have been fixed.

Canyonville Feed and Ranch has been voted the business of the Month. He would also like to host a mixer in the middle of December. There will be food and live music. Gordon is also interested in trying to put together a local music show for Monday nights to be held at Pioneer Park. He will start researching to see if we could bring in enough people and talent.

The last Oregon 150 chili feed will be on Oct 3rd.

Doug from Ken's has someone to provide Bales of Hay for our October decorations. They are 5.00/each and will be delivered. Please let him know as soon as possible if you want to be included.

October 12Th is the Columbus Day Bunco night. Please purchase your tickets soon they sell out fast.

September 26Th is the Oregon 150 Celebration at the fairgrounds. Volunteers are needed.

Pioneer Days is over. The Jail made around 550.00, the pie auction about 5500.00. A big thank you goes out to Rod Miller and Seven Feathers for building and donating the Jail, and all the Sheriffs for donating there time to make the arrests. Next year we might offer photos of the detainees. We had a great crowd with a couple complaints some of the tents were vandalized. Tamara will be taking over the application process. Seven feathers will continue to mark spaces and organize vendors. The performers may change for next year. Tentatively we have a Dean Martin impersonator for next year. Next year try to get more ads for entertainment. (on the radio and news papers) All the T-shirts sold!! We still have some hats available.

We'll have the space we need for the 150 @ the the fairgrounds.

The all staff meeting for the school district went very well. They wanted to thank everyone and handed out certificates of appreciation to those businesses that sponsored the event. The enrollment is up and the first day of school went well.

The timer on the north welcome sign is not coming on at the right times we will figure out what the problem is. Do we want to coordinate the lights and water? At this time the lights will stay on.

Lions Club BBQ made about 1000.00 to help with the sight and hearing fund. They have discussed adding a little variety of meats next year.

Dean Kelley won the TV raffle. He was very excited needless to say.

The Canyonville School Committee earned about 1000.00.

Hestehaven will not be renewing there sign on the board.

September 18 there is a scenic byway opening in Scottsburg.

Tim Freeman's office would like to schedule time to talk about the budget and current the legislator.

A marketing workshop with UCDC has been scheduled for Wednesday Sept 30Th 2-3:30 at City Hall.

The new addition to the reader board is almost done. It just needs to be stained.

Dec 4Th is the 2ND annual city wide tree lighting.

Rodeo is Sept 19 & 20Th. We will pass a volunteer calender around at next weeks meeting.

The annual Columbus Day Bunco event will happen again at El Paraiso. Tickets are 25.00/each.

Oct 17Th is the annual Pumpkin and Music Celebration. Tamara is needing volunteers.

Oct 3rd is the last Oregon 150 Chili Cook off for Canyonville.

Pioneer Days kicks off on Sat. we will be serving root beer floats and selling badges. Volunteers are still needed for root beer floats and to be sheriffs. The TV raffle is going great. The tickets will be on sale through Pioneer days. KPIC commercials start tomorrow. They donated $3216.00 worth of air time and production. 5,000.00 inserts will be in the News Review, Canyonville Feed and Ranch donated the inserts.

SUSD had a board meeting and Sue Moran resigned. We need to fill the position. The last day to register is Sept. 7Th. They will interview at the district office no vote will be held to replace her.

If there are problem "visitors" please send them to the fireman's booth.

Jake motioned and Jim seconded to put the ad in the News Review for Pioneer days.

Please contact Madilyn if you have anything for the newsletter and contact Dan Barzee for the website. We need to get more organized to have everything updated with current schedules.

There has been another management change at the Leisure inn.

Tim Freeman has a 15 min. presentation about current legislation if we are interested in hearing. Schedule for a future meeting.

There will be a Intro to new businesses in the paper on the 25Th.

We are going to order a timer for the sign.
