Jake, Javelin and Jim    will try to get together next week to get them up. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt; &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:100%;"&gt;New business:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;ul type="disc"&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:100%;"&gt;Judy Coleman reported that    Danielle Raines was interested in doing a “games” night fundraiser    out at 7-Feathers.  She is looking for volunteers to help.     It will be a 3-chamber co-op and money will be split between them.     Pam Y., Jake Y, Joanne, and Judy C will attend the first meeting to    get the information.  Meeting will be held December 13&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;    from 3-5 PM. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Calibri;font-size:100%;"&gt;Joanne also reported she    read in the News Review about Upward Bound wanting to do some volunteer    work. Chuck M. also reported they received $500 from the Canyonville Masons.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 36pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Symbol;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;·&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;       &lt;span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;The Canyonville Christmas lights are up! We are on the 8Th day of school and so far everything is going smoothly. Enrollment is up from the end of the year last year. The board meeting last night was canceled and has been rescheduled for next Wednesday at 6:30. They will be interviewing candidates for the open Canyonville Board position.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The Rodeo starts at 3:30 on the 19Th we need volunteers to run the food booth. Please contact Judy for more info.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Next Thursday at 6:30 the 17Th is a Business Mixer at Forest Glenn. There will be several presenters and drinks and snacks will be served.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Rick came down and cleaned the filters for the North welcome sign. If we can get enough volunteers, Phil will come down and teach us how to do it ourselves. It should be cleaned monthly.&lt;br /&gt;The water timer issues have been fixed.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Canyonville Feed and Ranch has been voted the business of the Month. He would also like to host a mixer in the middle of December. There will be food and live music. Gordon is also interested in trying to put together a local music show for Monday nights to be held at Pioneer Park. He will start researching to see if we could bring in enough people and talent.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The last Oregon 150 chili feed will be on Oct 3rd.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Doug from Ken's has someone to provide Bales of Hay for our October decorations. The Jail made around 550.00, the pie auction about 5500.00. A big thank you goes out to Rod Miller and Seven Feathers for building and donating the Jail, and all the Sheriffs for donating there time to make the arrests. Next year we might offer photos of the detainees. We had a great crowd with a couple complaints some of the tents were vandalized. Tamara will be taking over the application process. Seven feathers will continue to mark spaces and organize vendors. The performers may change for next year. Tentatively we have a Dean Martin impersonator for next year. Next year try to get more ads for entertainment. (on the radio and news papers) All the T-shirts sold!! We still have some hats available.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;We'll have the space we need for the 150 @ the the fairgrounds.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The all staff meeting for the school district went very well. They wanted to thank everyone and handed out certificates of appreciation to those businesses that sponsored the event. The enrollment is up and the first day of school went well.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The timer on the north welcome sign is not coming on at the right times we will figure out what the problem is. Do we want to coordinate the lights and water? At this time the lights will stay on.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Lions Club BBQ made about 1000.00 to help with the sight and hearing fund. They have discussed adding a little variety of meats next year.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Dean Kelley won the TV raffle. He was very excited needless to say.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The Canyonville School Committee earned about 1000.00.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Hestehaven will not be renewing there sign on the board.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;September 18 there is a scenic byway opening in Scottsburg.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Tim Freeman's office would like to schedule time to talk about the budget and current the legislator.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;A marketing workshop with UCDC has been scheduled for Wednesday  Sept 30Th 2-3:30 at City Hall.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The new addition to the reader board is almost done. It just needs to be stained.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Dec 4Th is the 2ND annual city wide tree lighting.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Rodeo is Sept 19 &amp;amp; 20Th. They donated $3216.00 worth of air time and production. 5,000.00 inserts will be in the News Review, Canyonville Feed and Ranch donated the inserts.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;SUSD had a board meeting and Sue Moran resigned. We need to fill the position. The last day to register is Sept. 7Th. They will interview at the district office no vote will be held to replace her.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;If there are problem "visitors" please send them to the fireman's booth.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Jake motioned and Jim seconded to put the ad in the News Review for Pioneer days.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Please contact Madilyn if you have anything for the newsletter and contact Dan Barzee for the website. Teachers will have a catered lunch but other staff are going to be heading downtown to enjoy some local merchants. The local service merchants have sponsored the after meeting drinks. School starts on Aug 31st. Our Mainstreet Bridge newsletter will be doing an article on the new Superintendent and his history.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;We are still looking for Pies for the Pie Auction. We also need help with breaking down the shelving after so the next scheduled performer can go on. Call Carol Malmay with questions.&lt;br /&gt;We have the jail for Pioneer days and it is wonderful. Thanks go out to seven feathers for building it for us.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Jake received another power bill for the new sign. It is around 120.00. We need to talk to Erwin about a timer to cut cost.&lt;br /&gt;Lions Club may help with the elect cost.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The memorabilia for Pioneer days is arriving. Hats aren't expected for another couple of days but T-shirts are here and for sale. You can purchase them at the pharmacy and at the info desk at Pioneer days. Reserved seating tickets are on sale at Ken's and raffle tickets are available almost everywhere. Nan and Judy will help sell tickets for raffle on Monday morn at the post office and Marie and Joy will sell at Rays Monday afternoon. Brian will be taking some to his church also.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The fire dept. is buying a new engine. They will be demoing a truck Tuesday afternoon at the fire hall if anyone would like to see it. They haven't had a new truck since 1980.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The Elks motorcycle run brought in about 30-35 bikes and 100 people. We need to get our stuff together pictures, and who is going to be there to talk about the town.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sherry Roberts from Seven Feathers is doing the graphics for our buttons. We will have the Beard badge, Jail badge and 150 badge. Stephanie and Pam are going to make them when the time comes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Non-profits can now advertise on the local radio station for free. Contact &lt;a href="mailto:john@krem.org"&gt;john@krem.org&lt;/a&gt; to place the ad.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The sidewalk project has started. They are currently working on moving the existing underground lines.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tim Freeman said the 75Th session has now ended for the state representatives. They discussed 1200 bills and increased the budget by 9% from last year. Inflation is currently at a standstill. There is a 21% increase in budget for the state government. DHS is has a 30% increase from last year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The yard sale is almost here. Javelin has maps at Promise, you can also pick them up at the visitors center and the park on Saturday. They will be serving Blueberry pancakes and eggs from 8-11 and Hot dogs from 11-3. Pam put our over 80 signs and placed public service announcements. Javelin needs electric griddles and skillets for cooking on sat. Zack, Steve, Jake, Joy, Tamara and Judy have volunteered to help. Be there at 6-7am to help.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The South Umpqua School District hat there first board meeting. It was the annual reorganization meeting. Jeff Johnson has retained the chair position and Bob Ankeny is the Vice-chair. One of the topics is returning the middle school to Canyonville. Steve the new Superintendent is working on a lot of projects and everything seems to be moving along.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Saturday evening is the Music for Music benefit in the parking lot of Rays. There will be hot dogs, chips and a drink for $4.00. It will run from 6-8pm.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nest Tuesday the Pioneer Day Committee has a meeting at Ken's Sidewalk cafe at 12pm.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Javelin needs more entries for the bed races at Pioneer Days.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Myrtle Creek Elks Lodge has a scholarship dinner. Its $20.00/ person and the scholarship winners will be reading there essays. The Golf tournament is Sunday with a 9am tee off. teams are 4 people.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Friday there is an auction at the casino for Douglas County Youth Development.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Shane Hancock has opened a branch of Pennsylvania Life in South County. The company has been around for 119 years. It focuses on the self employed and families. Edie Cramer will try to do it next year. They are currently working on a can food drive for reservists. A motorcycle run on the 9th of August from Myrtle Creek to Galesville Res. The American Legion will be handing the food out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Pioneer Days Committee is still working on the TV raffle.With the drawing the last day of Pioneer Days. Please see Tamara if you would like to purchase tickets. 5.00/ticket or 5/20.00. A Concert featuring several bands will be in the Rays parking lot on July 18Th. They will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs. Katelyn Wiggs is organizing will be from 6-8pm.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our City Wide Yard Sale is July 18Th from 8-4pm. Pam is submitting ads for the Paper and possibly Radio. Zack,Rick M, Joy, Tamara, and a few others have volunteered to help Javelin. You can still drop items with Pam at Bead Mecca.Breakfast and lunch will be served at Pioneer Park.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have available spaces on the reader board at Rays.We would like to put on an extension on the Rays board for 8 new sign places. Javelin motioned Jake seconded.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Debbie from Forest Glen said we could hang a sign on her building for advertising if we want to.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;the new superintendent from SUSD came to introduce himself and answer any questions. The new board&lt;br /&gt;has been approved for the 09-10 school year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Pumpkin Fest is also doing a food drive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Business of the month is Hometown Ins. The new sign should be up later today.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The button machine is on it's way. It comes with 50 buttons. We will need to order more. We also need graphics and an estimate for cost. Jake motioned to have 1000 buttons ordered and we will use them through out the year. Chuck seconded.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Jail is coming along and should be ready soon for any events.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Forest Glen may have room for a food bank. A Spa will also be opening sometime in July.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;City Council has employed a late notice for water service of $10.00. If you notice street lights out please notify them. They have applied for a grant to pave 5th street.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Lions Club have a BBQ stand at the Chili Cook Off at Seven Feathers this weekend. They will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs from 11am until the crowds thin out. The proceeds will go to benefit the sight and hearing fund.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pioneer Days is still looking for more talent for the Talent Show. It is free to enter this year and you can pick up applications from Tamara at Hoff's. Donations are also being accepted to help pay for entertainment and use. They are holding a raffle for a 42" flat screen TV. Tickets go on sale Wednesday they are $5 each or 5 for 20. There is also preferred seating being offered this year. We are also needing pies to sell.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The North Welcome to Canyonville sign still needs the ditch filled in but is otherwise finished.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kathy Brown is going to look into availability of the parent groups button machine. They are asking for show of support if you can make it. Please call Pam or Joanne with questions.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rays is the business of the month.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The City Wide Yard Sale has been set for July 11th. Rick from the city has volunteered to help cook. Breakfast will be served from 8-11 and lunch from 11-2at Pioneer Park. Maps will be available to show where the yard sales are. To be included on the map there is a 5$ fee or you can donate items that will benefit the Chamber. Please drop all items off at Bead Mecca and have them organized and labeled. There will be press releases sent to the News Review and The Umpqua Free Press.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Myrtle Creek is hosting a Show and Shine on June 27 at Millsite Park. Parking will start at 9am for cars the show will be from 12-3 with entertainment and food booths available. This is usually included with the Summer Festival but they have seperated it this year.   &lt;br /&gt;There is a Businessmen/women's mixer being held at the Elks Lodge in Myrtle Creek on June 18th.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Susan was discussing a larger more efficient South County Resource Center. It is currently in Tri-city but they are running out of room to house all the different programs that are available. There are already plans from several years ago that would include several different City, County and State programs. The trip the Riddle High School Band recently went on. The viewing will be June 3, 2009 @ 7:30pm. Free admission.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Application have been sent out for Pioneer Days booths. The Chamber would like to participate and Judy will start filling out the forms.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In June Douglas County Public Works will be installing drainage and sidewalks from the Horseless Carriage building to Canyon Market. About a 500 ft path.&lt;br /&gt;Pam spoke with Susan Morgan about the sidewalk being paved all the way to the cemetery. There is  a presentation to the commissioners on June 4th at 2:30pm. Letters of support are still being accepted along with the petitions that are going around. Anyone can sign.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jeanie Weakley won the open South Umpqua School Board Position.&lt;br /&gt;The School Board has decided to keep the 6th grade in Canyonville for the 09-10 school year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Bingo event held by the Lions at Pioneer Park on Sat went very well. They intend to be having more games in the future.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;about 30 people volunteered on Saturday to clean up the city. They weeded, planted flowers and cleaned up from City Hall to Pioneer Park.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tamara Hoff won the 150.00 Gas gift card raffle held by the Chamber.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Erwin's have the power pole up for the Welcome to Canyonville sign at the north end of town. We hope to have the electrical up and everything working shortly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2 scholarships of $500.00 will be awarded by the Chamber to South County Students. The winners will be announced next month.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The City Wide yard sale will be held July 18th. Javelin is organizing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dean will be coming around to ask for donations for the Elks scholarships and Golf event. They gave out 9 scholarships to Days Creek this year.&lt;br /&gt;There will be a Flag Day Ceremony at the Elks Lodge on Sun June 14.&lt;br /&gt;A mixer for business people will be at the Lodge June 18 at 6pm. The Elks would like the Chamber Pres. and Lions Club Pres. do be in attendance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be a South County marketing training, by the Lacoda Group from Chicago,  and is tentatively scheduled for the 18-19 of June. It will include town specific marketing for Canyonville, Riddle and Myrtle Creek. Once this is complete the Downtown Marketing Committee will apply for a grant under the UCDC economic development. It will help with marketing analysis for the 3 cities. It's for 17,000 and that will be matched by the UCDC. We would have to to volunteer hours as an in kind donation. It will help with determining needs in community. The next step would be to attract new businesses and activity in downtown areas. Helping with cosmetic improvements working in conjunction with the Historical Society.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As soon as Canyonville can come up with the materials cost for the Park seating cover they will begin construction. Some fund raising ideas were discussed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ideas are needed for the booth at the fairgrounds on June 26th for the 150.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Pioneer days Committee needs donations to help with music. They have sent out forms to previous donors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kerry is holding the town swap/donation this sat at the Youth Center from 9-3pm.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is a Chili dinner benefiting the 150th Birthday set for Oct 3rd.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The land has already been offered for the Circus next year. They will be discussing the sidewalk between here and the Casino. Please let Pam or Colleen know if you have letters of support.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The ballot box will be at City Hall until 8pm on Tues.&lt;br /&gt;The City wide Clean up is this Saturday the 16th from 9-12 and 1-4. Lunch and entertainment will be provided for volunteers at Pioneer Park from 12-1. Meet at City Hall at 9am.&lt;br /&gt;Contact Joanne Gordon at Commonwealth Garden with any questions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Lions Club will host Bingo at Pioneer Park on May 16th from 1-3.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Chamber of Commerce will host the City Wide yard sale this year. It will be the second weekend of July. There will be a breakfast and lunch fundraiser. Tables are 5.00.&lt;br /&gt;Jake Motioned to have Javelin Ormond Chair with Pam and Joy as co-chairs. Chuck Second.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be a Chili Dinner for the Oregon 150 on Oct 3rd either at Pioneer Park or the Masonic Lodge depending on weather.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Days Creek High school is hosting there annual Alumni  Softball game. Sunday May 17th at 2pm admission is 1.00 with a dinner fundraiser following at 4:30.  BBQ Salmon, Chicken and hamburgers will be served this year. Dinner starts at 5.00/adults 4.00/kids age k-12 and 3.00/4 and under. They will be auctioning off 2 sweatshirts and all proceeds go to the girls softball team.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Pioneer Day Committee has paid the booking fee. They will soon get letters out requesting donations. Doug is measuring for seating. They are discussing different fundraising or raffle ideas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The month of May and June are busy for the local schools. The softball field is now usable for the 10 and under group. The Fire dept is letting grades 1-4 try the fire hose. Grades 4,5,and 6 will soon have there outdoor trips. The kindergarten will be coming around visiting local businesses and June 2nd is the year end movie. CA Theaters provided a 75% disc. This year to rent the theater if the children would be allowed in advertising. They have laid off one teacher and are blending the 3/4 grades for the 2010 school year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;May 23rd is the Community Giveaway at the Youth Center From 9-3. And will be held the 4th Sat of June and July. Contact Kerry at Ray's with questions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The YMCA Free Lunch Program is going to be held this year. Starting on June 29-Aug 13 Mon-Thurs from 12-1. All children are welcome. The Clown was here yesterday and went to local businesses and schools. There will be an add in the News Review on May 8th. Seven Feathers will provide a free bus service from City Hall to the circus starting at 4pm and finishing when the circus is over. Seven Feathers purchased and gave out tickets to 152 families and took care of manicuring the field. Cheryl volunteered to call and have utilities located to prevent damage when putting up big top. All the money has been collected from pre-sold tickets totalling over $1100.00. All other monies and tickets need to be returned to Katie Siegel at Canyonville Chiropractic by 12pm on Monday May11th. Our Guest Ringmaster is Doug Sales.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The cover for the bleachers at Pioneer Park has been designed and may start construction soon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be a Chili dinner project for the Oregon 150 on Oct 3rd.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  Pam Landell resigned as Secretary of the Chamber effective today 05-07-09. She thanked everyone and we appreciated her work with the chamber. Jenny Gilbert is to replace Pam as secretary. Javelin Motioned to have Jenny replace Pam on the Board of the Chamber and seconded by Brian Shankle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pam also informed us of needing to renew the PO Box and the Myrtle Creek Chamber membership.&lt;br /&gt;There will be a meeting tonight at 7pmat Ken's for the Main Street Program and the Bicycle/Pedestrian path. They are selling engraved bricks that are $50.00 each and will have up to 3 lines of script, available in a variety of fonts. So far they have sold 100 bricks, but would like to sell 1000. The kids are doing all the work. If you would like more info contact Mark Hopfer 825-3296.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Days Creek will have 30 graduating Seniors this year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Javelin talked about the Umpqua Training and Employment summer work program that gives hands on training and mentorship to youth with a cost benefit to the employer. They have openings and funding. They were impressed with the turn-out of complete family units. The Get Fit Challenge ends this Friday. There is an awards ceremony this Friday evening at the Y.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Canyonville Schools Parent Group is selling tickets to the dinner and a movie event that is on Friday May 8th. Tickets are $20 and include dinner, dessert and the movie. There will also be a raffle for a 26" flat screen TV. for tickets or more info call 839-6966&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jim reported that there is $500 dollars in the Chamber scholarship fund and $5000 in the Harry Burdge scholarship fund.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The circus pre-sold $1300 in circus tickets and that means that all sales from here on out are profits for the chamber. There were 52 tickets that we donated to the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt.Circus posters and tickets should arrive soon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Chuck announced that the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt. that will be this Saturday at 1:00 at pioneer park. There will be different age group categories to make it fair for the little ones. He also wanted to congratulate Tamara Hoff for being the Woman of the Year at Saturdays Citizen of the Year Banquet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pam announced the Main Street meeting that will be Thursday April 16th at 7:00 at Ken's Sidewalk Cafe. She asked for a letter of support from the chamber to have when approaching the County Commissioners. Javelin spoke with Susan Morgan who supports the Bicycle/Pedestrian path plans. The Main Street Association will ask for the support of the city at the council meeting on the 20th.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Oregon Main Street Program will be holding a 2 day workshop April 20-21  on the main street program that is open to everyone and is free of charge. It will be held at Jasmine's on South East Main Street in Downtown. If you are interested contact Pam at 839-6688. Tickets are $20.00 and will benefit the South Douglas County Heritage Tourism. They are earmarked for freeway signs, which will directly benefit all businesses and the community.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dean talked about the Umpqua Community Development Corp. program that helps low income families build houses. The program is similar to the Habitat for Humanity program that requires sweat equity involvement. He suggested that we have them come down and do a presentation for the program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Elks is planning a South County business mixer for May or June. They hope to involve businesses from Canyonville, Myrtle Creek and Riddle. The idea is that if we know what businesses are in our communities we will all grow through referrals. Networking is crucial to growth and success.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tamara talked about the schedule of meetings for Pioneer Days. The board is made up of community members, YMCA board members and city council members. The goal is to assess the needs of the community and make sure the Y is fulfilling their obligation to the Canyonville community needs. The representatives from the Oregon Main Street will be in Canyonville to assess the needs of the community. There will be a town hall meeting on March 17th to introduce the community to the program and get feedback from the people who live here. The contract is signed and the show will be on the Cofelt (???) property near Herbert's Pond that is owned by the tribe. Judy is meeting with the tribal attorneys regarding water and mowing the property.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Autumn from Gordon's Pharmacy talked about the need for a shelter for the bleachers at Pioneer Park. She will be getting an estimate for a permanent shelter that will have enough pitch to shade the stage area for the performers. The money raised during the circus will help fund the project.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Madalyn talked about the Geo Tourism map that will be produced by National Geographic. It covers Washington and Oregon from Tacoma to Ashland. They are looking for 150 sites for the map and 300 sites for the website. Please consider putting in an enthusiastic nomination for something you love in this area. This is a great opportunity toget the South Umqua Valley on the map, which will help with tourism.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tim gave a report on the Canyonville School. He talked about the school talent show coming up. He and Misty were at the school board meeting fighting to keep the 6th grade in Canyonville. They showed that of the 23 5th graders, 18 want to stay in Canyonville. The Lions club distrubuted flags to 1st graders. The coffee pot broke.  Rick Richardson will help locate a commercial grade coffee pot to keep teachers happy. 25 tiger cards were issued. Average grade for 5th graders was an A+ in state tests. No wonder we're not smarter than a 5th grader.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jim gave a report about the Schools Committee boundary change. The Days Creek board tied with a vote 3/3. The committee will continue to meet with Days Creek. He also mentioned that they need a Canyonville representative for budget committee school board opening.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Javelin talked about the YMCA scholarship fund drive. They are seeking nominations for geographical natural and historic landmarks in the South Umpqua region. The map will be beautifully done and will have a driving tour of the area from Crater Lake to Mt Rainier. If there is something in this area that is a not to be missed sight for tourists than we want to know about it. Some mentions were the falls, bridges, museum, pioneer families, 3rd oldest city. So tell us your pick and what you love about it, be descriptive, as passion for your area is important to the selection process. The deadline is in March. Contact Judy for more info.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Ted Ramos talked about the South County Task Force for the Workforce Training and Development Center that will be located in the area. They are currently in the location selection process and are looking for land to build a facility. One possibility is the Tri City Industrial Park at exit 103. The next meeting is on the 23rd. The meeting will be in the back meeting room.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Jim brought up a couple of bills that needed to be paid, Judy said pay them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Donna from the Leisure Inn mentioned that she will be retiring in just 5 weeks and wants to complete the books for the rooms by the middle of March. He also has raffle tickets for a gas card and is selling tickets for a church missionary fundraiser.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Shauna from the YMCA wanted to let you know about the Father/Daughter Mother/Son Valentines dance on Feb 12th at 7pm. She also mentioned the Strong kids campaign a that will help the south county Y directly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Umpqua bank is sponsoring a get fit contest that starts this week and runs for 10 weeks. This Friday 2/6 is the last day to register. With the current number of participants the winner stands to take over $1800 dollars. Count me in!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The Tiller school has produced a cookbook to raise money for the 6th &amp;amp; 7th grade class to go to Washington DC. The cookbooks are available through Promise Natural Foods.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; There are 4 openings for the South Umpqua School Board. Canyonville needs representaion.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The Elks will be having a Sweetheart Ball on Valentines Day. There will be a great band and there is a $5.00 cover charge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The Canyonville Downtown Association will have their Sweetheart Stroll on Valentines Day from 11-4. Maps will be available at the Chamber visitor center next week. Strollers will enjoy chocolate tastings at participating shops and get their map stamped. Those who turn in their map will be eligible for a drawing of a sweetheart gift basket. More detils will be forthcoming at the next meeting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The Oregon 150 requests that everyone decorate with white and green balloons on Feb 14th to recognize the birth of the state.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The Spaghetti feed  money totaled over 17,000 dollars and will be given to communities through $500 grants. They are looking for communities that participated and have needs to apply.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Doug has secured the reservation of the Ice Cream cooler for the Root Beer Floats at the event that preceeds Pioneer Days.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Judy mentioned that Clay Potential will be closing it's doors and therefore will not be making the Chamber Pot for the battle of the Chambers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Feed Lot has closed permanently. She suggested continuing the battle of the chambers and adding a dutch oven cooking contest and serving food. Javelin suggested root beer floats and iced coffee.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The Riddle Chamber of Commerce wants to invite you to a Business after hours open house that will be held at Sterling Bank in Riddle on January 20th from 5:00-6:30. Refreshments will be served.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be an Oregon 150 celebration at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 26th. We have been asked if we would like a free booth to represent Canyonville. After some discussion we decided to take a 10x20 booth that would allow us to display history and current info on the community and it's businesses. Plan to make up a display for your business. Ideas for the booth are popcorn, Cookies, historical pictures, demos of how businesses and products were in the pioneer days. This display should entice people to come and visit Canyonville.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dean reminded us the Chinese New Year's Celebration that will be next week and is sponsored by the Elks. They will have a 3 piece country and western band called the Dixonville Chicks and food by Roger Wong. Tickets are $20.00 each or $100 for 6. He also mentioned that while traveling on an airplane he struck up a conversation with a womon who asked where he was from and when he told her Canyonville she said she remembered Canyonville as having one of the neatest natural foods stores around. Congrats to Javelin!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jim reported on the progress of the schools committee. Day's Creek school district will meet January 21st to discuss boundary changes. They will meet in the computer room. They are trying to get as much community input as possible, so try to attend if you can. Also, Judy reminded us of several openings on the South Umpqua school board.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bob Deaton received a letter from the 36Edistrict Lions club who will be holding a meeting at the casino March 26th-28th. They are seeking info on the area for their members and he suggested we write a welcome letter to invite them to explore the town.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Lily Brislen spoke about the Think Local Program. She handed out applications to join and let us know that they have a sliding scale for new and struggling businesses. She announced that there were several deaths in the past few weeks, including George Shaffer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2009 Membership Dues are now due. We will be sending applications with the newsletter to save on postage and to invite other business owners to join.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We will be renewing our membership to the Riddle and Myrtle Creek Chambers and are awaiting their bills.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We need to raise money by June 1st to qualify for the matching funds on the Lilja grant to complete the sign. Rick and Raymond from the fire department have agreed to keep the pond filled. The electricity is still at the mercy of the land owners, Lillian and Darryl.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Christmas lights have been taken down.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There have been more incidents of vandalism to the lights at the park and to local businesses, including Hoff's Frontier Real Estate. Doug from Ken's witnessed some of the destruction and called the police, who caught the perpetrators. Tamara did not press charges, but made them pay for the damages and apologize.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jenny from Umpqua bank announced the Business after hours open house that will be held at Sterling Bank in Riddle on January 20th from 5:00-6:30. Refreshments will be served.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tim from Canyonville Elementary School announced that they will be holding a pop can drive. The proceeds will pay for a 3 day trip to the coast this spring.&lt;br /&gt;He also reported of vandalism and break-ins at the school. Cans were stolen from a storage facility and students were caught after Ralph Johansen observed the students with large garbage bags and realized they were up ton mischief. In a separate incident fire extinguishers were discharged and fire retardant was sprayed throughout a room.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Enrollment at the elementary school is at 146 students for the 2nd quarter. Tiger cards will be issued on Feb 2nd or 3rd.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be a school board meeting on Wednesday, January 14th. They are searching for a new superintendent. There will be an 18 person panel making the selection.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tuesday, Jan 13th will be a celebration of literacy from 12:15-1:00 at 7 feathers convention center. Cookies will be served.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Elks gave out 167 food baskets at Christmas, which included over 10,000 items. They will be holding a Chinese New Year's Celebration that will have a 3 piece country and western band. She also mentioned the Y has a new CEO who will be spending some time observing the South County Facility. They will be fund raising for the scholarship program and would like your support. The needs are high due to the slowdown in the economy. The programs are dependent on attendance and if there is not enough enrollment they will have to cancel programs and turn away students in need, but with community support they can keep the numbers up and the kid's involved in a positive activity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Brian will be coming around to sell tickets for the latest Gas Card Raffle valued at $150.00&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Judy is planning another fund raiser to raffle a couple of Easter baskets. Easter is on April 12th.
