Judy and Ted talked about the National Geographic Geo Tourism map that will be coming out in the summer. They are seeking nominations for geographical natural and historic landmarks in the South Umpqua region. The map will be beautifully done and will have a driving tour of the area from Crater Lake to Mt Rainier. If there is something in this area that is a not to be missed sight for tourists than we want to know about it. Some mentions were the falls, bridges, museum, pioneer families, 3rd oldest city. So tell us your pick and what you love about it, be descriptive, as passion for your area is important to the selection process. The deadline is in March. Contact Judy for more info.

Ted Ramos talked about the South County Task Force for the Workforce Training and Development Center that will be located in the area. They are currently in the location selection process and are looking for land to build a facility. One possibility is the Tri City Industrial Park at exit 103. The next meeting is on the 23rd. This Sunday 2/8 there will be a South County Tourism meeting from 2-4 at the Creekside to discuss the signs on the freeway. The meeting will be in the back meeting room.

Jim brought up a couple of bills that needed to be paid, Judy said pay them.

Donna from the Leisure Inn mentioned that she will be retiring in just 5 weeks and wants to complete the books for the rooms by the middle of March. If you have your flyers ready leave them at the front desk. If you need help Madalyn has a special to do the graphic design and printing for just $40. You can reach her at 680-4358.

Brian has tickets available for the Citizen of the year banquet which will be in April. Tickets are limited to 200 and are $30.00 each. Brian can be contacted through Jake's Auto Center. He also has raffle tickets for a gas card and is selling tickets for a church missionary fundraiser.

Shauna from the YMCA wanted to let you know about the Father/Daughter Mother/Son Valentines dance on Feb 12th at 7pm. For more info call the Y at 839-6117. She also mentioned the Strong kids campaign a that will help the south county Y directly.

Umpqua bank is sponsoring a get fit contest that starts this week and runs for 10 weeks. This Friday 2/6 is the last day to register. With the current number of participants the winner stands to take over $1800 dollars. Count me in!

The Tiller school has produced a cookbook to raise money for the 6th & 7th grade class to go to Washington DC. The cookbooks are available through Promise Natural Foods.

There are 4 openings for the South Umpqua School Board. Canyonville needs representaion.

The Elks will be having a Sweetheart Ball on Valentines Day. There will be a great band and there is a $5.00 cover charge.

The Canyonville Downtown Association will have their Sweetheart Stroll on Valentines Day from 11-4. Maps will be available at the Chamber visitor center next week. Strollers will enjoy chocolate tastings at participating shops and get their map stamped. Those who turn in their map will be eligible for a drawing of a sweetheart gift basket. The Oregon Main Street Program will be doing a community needs assessment in March. More detils will be forthcoming at the next meeting.

The Oregon 150 requests that everyone decorate with white and green balloons on Feb 14th to recognize the birth of the state.

The Spaghetti feed money totaled over 17,000 dollars and will be given to communities through $500 grants. They are looking for communities that participated and have needs to apply.

Doug has secured the reservation of the Ice Cream cooler for the Root Beer Floats at the event that preceeds Pioneer Days.

Judy mentioned that Clay Potential will be closing it's doors and therefore will not be making the Chamber Pot for the battle of the Chambers.
